Barbara Collis-Wimsey is mentioned by Philip José Farmer in Tarzan Alive. She originally appeared as Barbara Collis, daughter of the 1st Earl Whimsey in Tarzan Triumphant by Edgar Rice Burroughs, but Farmer - noting the similarity between the names Wimsey and Whimsey - identified the Earl as a younger son of the 14th Duke of Denver, has been created a peer in his own right. Following this theory, the Earl and his wife - a Collis - would have hyphenated their surname.

As a Wimsey, Barbara is noted as a member of the Wold Newton Family in the genealogy published in Farmer's book.
