Henry Burlingame is a character in the novel The Sot-Weed Factor by John Barth. Burlingame, a descendant of Captain John Smith, is the much-loved tutor to the Cooke children, and the depth to which that love extended may be inferred from the fact that he also appears in the genealogy published in Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life as having fathered Andrew Cooke upon Anna Cooke.
