Lovecraft4

Howard Philips Lovecraft (1890-1937) was an American writer who served as a mentor for numerous other writers in the 1920s and 1930s. He is best known as the chronicler of stories involving what were later termed the "Cthulhu Mythos". By all accounts he was very much an eccentric, preferring the Georgian Era rather than his own time.

Philip José Farmer discusses elements of Lovecraft's work in Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life:

  • He reveals that one of Doc Savage's Fabulous Five assistants, William Harper "Johnny" Littlejohn, was a professor at Miskatonic University
  • He also argues that Johnny can be identified with one of the characters in Lovecraft's novel At the Mountain of Madness
  • Robert Blake, protagonist of Lovecraft's short story "The Haunter of the Dark", is given as a member of the Wold Newton Family
