Lord Tiverton was a distant descendant of Manuel of Poictesme and Niafer, as identified by James Branch Cabell in "The Lineage of Lichfield". His lordship was said to have been attainted for treason, and subsequently beheaded, in 1745 (the year of the Jacobite Rebellion).

Philip José Farmer makes reference of the family in Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life. He notes that Lord Tiverton was married to Lorna Esmond and that they were the parents of Matthew de Pierson, an ancestor of Doc Savage.
