Dom Manuel, Count of Poictesme, Dom Manuel the Redeemer, was a Medieval Swineherd who became, after a number of adventures, ruler of a portion of the south of France. His story, and that of his lady-love Niafer is told in the various volumes that make up the often-satirical The Biography of the Life of Manuel by James Branch Cabell. Cabell also traced Manuel and Niafer's descendants and reincarnations, particularly in "The Lineage of Lichfield".
In Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life, Philip José Farmer identifies one of their remote descendants from "The Lineage of Lichfield", Lord Tiverton, as an ancestor of Doc Savage.
