Monica Clarke is mentioned in Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life by Philip José Farmer as being one of the daughters of Gervas Clarke and Joan Hordle. She was the mother of Alice Clarke Raffles.

In Tarzan Alive, Farmer stated that Alice Clarke Raffles was a cousin of the founder of Singapore, Sir Thomas Stamford (Bingley) Raffles, and that she was the sister of Violet Clarke. This suggests that Monica had married a son of Thomas Raffles (1713-1784), grandfather of Sir Thomas, and that Monica and her husband were the parents of Violet (although the fact that she does not bear the surname 'Raffles' has directed Wold Newton scholar Dennis Power to suggesting that she may have been illegitimate).
